The Adventures of Hope & Trusty: Sky Cloud City is a book inspired by a masterpiece of classical Greek comedy, The Birds, by the ancient Greek playwright Aristophanes. It extols the virtues of friendship, cooperation, peace, and respect for the environment. The present adaptation focuses on the true fairy tale aspect of the play without any reference to politics. Sky Cloud City is the story of two young friends, a boy named Trusty and a girl named Hope. They seize an opportunity to go on an adventure to the bird kingdom and help the oppressed birds restore their status among men and the Gods. The lesson is that through friendship, cooperation, perseverance, and responsibility, all things can be accomplished, but the highest and most important goals are peace and friendship.
Illustrated in pastel by New England artist Aspasia Tsihlakis Arvanitis. Illuminated caps illustrated by the author. Graphic design by Cate Rickard Barr.
